Thorne Glucosamine & Chondroitin

Supplementing with glucosamine and chondroitin sulfates can provide significant benefit for musculoskeletal support.* Chondroitin sulfates, a category of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), are required for the formation of various important components of joint cartilage.* These two nutrients – glucosamine and chondroitin – support joint function and mobility by enhancing the body’s production of GAGs and preventing their degradation.* Clinical research indicates that supplementing with chondroitin sulfates supports joint structures.* Some studies have concluded that the combination of glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate protects and supports joint surfaces more effectively than glucosamine sulfate alone.*

Glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate are the forms with the long trials. Those trials were in people with knee osteoarthritis, and they measured symptoms and joint space.*

In a three-year trial, 1,500 mg a day of crystalline glucosamine sulfate improved knee symptoms more than placebo.¹* A second three-year trial found the same dose improved pain, function, and stiffness scores, and the glucosamine group did not lose joint space while the placebo group did.²*

Chondroitin sulfate has a separate long trial. Over two years it slowed joint-space loss compared with placebo.³*
